Wuthering Heights
Created by Tamasha
Based on the novel by Emily Bronte
Original concept by Deepak Verma
Retaining
the dark and brooding atmosphere of the original novel, Wuthering Heights
fuses the drama, dance and colour of Bollywood with classical elements of a West End musical to bring Brontë’s timeless tale of
passion, jealousy, class and revenge raging to the stage.
With
the action relocated from the wilds of the Yorkshire Moors to the sun-scorched
deserts of Rajasthan this evocative, theatrical feast features an original
score of 12 new songs, lip-synched by the actors. Guaranteed to captivate
theatregoers of all ages this brand new show from leading British Asian theatre
company Tamasha is your chance to
witness the Bollywood genre live on stage.
Shakuntala (Cathy),
the fiery, headstrong daughter of spice merchant Singh, falls for Krishan
(Heathcliff), the wily street urchin from Bombay
that Singh brings home after a trip to market. Thrown together as unlikely
siblings, a tumultuous romance soon develops. But can their love withstand
Indian society’s taboos and hierarchies, not to mention Shakuntala's yearning
for a life of luxury that only neighbouring landowner Vijay can provide?
Running time: 2hrs 20mins (inc. interval)
