She is joined by the dynamic Kristan Harvey of Blazin’ Fiddles, and Aaron Jones, currently working with Kate Rusby. On September 11 Berriff was filming with the FDNY’s Deputy Chief Fire Commissioner at the World Trade Center when the twin towers collapsed on top of him. Berriff was knocked to the ground and lay unconscious for 25 minutes before crawling out of the debris. His camera was smashed but his tape showing the iconic sequence of the south tower collapsing survived…

In this10 week course we will look at the continuing influence of the epic tradition on English poets from Chaucer to the present day. We shall read extracts from Chaucer, Spenser, Milton, Wordsworth, Keats, Tennyson, Whitman, Eliot and Walcott to show how poets have striven to emulate the classical tradition exemplified by The Iliad, the Odyssey and The Aenid terms of both style and subject matter. There will be the opportunity for course members to introduce poems of their own choice dealing with the recurrent themes of heroism, adventure, love and friendship, rebellion, adventure, travel and quest.
