John Godber works with Harrogate Theatre on Men of the World

Next week we open our 3rd and final HT REP show, Men of the World, written by Yorkshire’s very own John Godber and directed by Amie Burns Walker.

Men of the World follows three northern coach drivers, Stick, Larry and Frank as they prepare for a mystery trip to Scarborough Stick. They soon start to take a trip down memory lane and recount memorable coach trips from their past. The show is bursting with compassion, nostalgia and humour and takes a look at the small and often overlooked moments of magic in our lives as just 3 actors play a vast number of characters.

We were very lucky to have John Godber himself work on the script alongside our brilliant director Amie to make it ‘rep ready’.

She said,

“I was really excited to speak to John about making Men of the World work for rep, especially since I had worked with his daughter, Mar, at Leeds Playhouse earlier this year. Honestly John’s jaw dropped when I told him we had just six days to stage it and so he proposed to cut it and we made some updates so it still felt relevant to today’s society. What we now have is a tight 90 minute production with the same heart and joyful hat swapping “

Following working on our recent community production, 122 Love Stories, Amie is also bringing the community cast to rep! It’s a great opportunity for local aspiring performers be able to take part in one of our flagship events. Look out for them in the bar before the show for some extra fun!

You can see Men of the World from Tuesday 27th September to Saturday 1st October at Harrogate Theatre.
