We won’t stop the January boos!

Happy New Year! It’s back to normal for many of us this week, and following on from the most social and (over) indulgent month of the year, January can be long, flat and difficult for many of us.

With that in mind it’s wonderful coming back to work at Harrogate Theatre, as panto is still running and the building continues to sing with the happy voices of our local children and their families and lots of leftover Christmas sparkle.

For many people, the pantomime marks the start of the Christmas season and December is certainly our busiest month for shows. However, we have regular January panto-goers who quite simply prefer coming along at a time when the rest of life is calmer, or to extend the festivities. One thing is for sure – our pantomime is just the tonic for an otherwise dreary January! If you need a few hours of escape, this year’s Beauty and the Beast is simply perfect. As a recent review in the York Press said “..this Parisian panto is magnifique.”

January isn’t only about panto either: This month Harrogate Theatre turns 118-years-old and on Thursday the 11th January there’s a very special birthday party to celebrate. The party will also double-up as our spring/ summer season launch, and the new What’s On guides arrive in the building that same day. Do make a note to pop in and grab a copy, or you can see all the shows already on sale on the website now at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk. We have some excellent productions in store for the town, including plenty of family shows and lots of live music. Don’t forget we programme events at the Royal Hall and Harrogate Convention Centre too.

Finally, whilst many of us may feel the pinch in our pockets and the fog of over indulgence right now, I’d like to urge everyone to consider getting out in the town as much as possible this month. January is also a difficult month for our shops, pubs and restaurants, and they need our continued support. Rather than withdrawing and abstaining, why not aim to rebalance instead? After all, what can be better for ridding of those January blues than an evening out at a local restaurant or bar, followed by a theatre trip to see panto? What’s more, there are feel good bonus points up for grabs for knowing you are helping keep our local establishments alive at a traditionally challenging time.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Harrogate Theatre in 2017, and we look forward to having you back soon.

Beauty and the Beast runs at Harrogate Theatre until 21st January and some tickets are still available.
