Be a part of The Town Meeting...
Our final 2’s company show this season is The Town Meeting SAT 2 JUNE.
The Town Meeting is a performance where you get the chance to experience what it feels like to be part of a community facing a life changing decision.
Created from a collaboration with Dr Paul Cowie from the Architecture, Planning and Landscape department at Newcastle University whose research revolves around how communities engage in town planning processes.
You're in charge of the story as you make big decisions to decide your town's future.
The show is set in the fictional Little Rikjord – a town in crisis. Voted most picturesque town in Great Doggerland four years running, it is an affluent and vibrant community which owes most of its wealth to an opencast iron ore mine. However, with the current seam close to exhaustion, there is growing uncertainty about the future and a difficult decision has to be made.
The play is set on the eve of a crucial hearing when the audience, in its role as the town residents, must come up with a plan for the future assisted only by shambolic junior planning officer Benjamin Rennold.
It gets you to think about our fast changing political landscape and your place in it. The show brings people together and gives you a chance to speak and listen to different views and opinions.
“A great chance for audiences to play and explore the subject without feeling self-conscious – no one is put on the spot.”
