Well, we are now in-between bank holidays and school holidays – the weather took a nose dive and we are all longing for summer or counting the days down to the next (hopefully sunny) break we have booked.

We may all be slightly vitamin D deficient right now, but one thing we aren’t short of is culture and community events in this wonderful town.

Our annual programme of year-round events has become so vast we’ve now broken it into three seasons – Spring, Summer, and Autumn/ Winter. We recently launched our summer season, which runs from May-August.

Of particular note this season we’ve got The Great Gatsby (11th-20th July) from The Guild of Misrule – a company who are masters of bringing theatre experiences to both traditional and non-traditional performance spaces. This particular production has been getting outstanding reviews out on tour, and we are really excited to bring the show to Harrogate. Prepare to be challenged on your perception of what theatre is, and brace yourself for an experience like no other you’ve ever experienced (1920s dress encouraged!).

Back to the more traditional now, and Much Ado About Nothing from the brilliant Northern Broadsides opens with us in Harrogate on 21st May. Told in true Northern Broadsides style, this production of Shakespeare’s glorious romantic comedy is sure to capture your hearts this Spring.

Also coming up this summer season – this month in fact – is Puss In Boots (30th & 31st May) from Northern Ballet. We regularly bring these enchanting ballets for children to Harrogate and needless to say with such a reputation they are always super-popular. Northern Ballet are outstanding at this – the shows are 40 minutes long with a low ticket price to reflect this, and the shows all take place in the afternoon. What’s more the sets are stunning and the standard of performance is second-to-none. These family-friendly shows are the perfect way to snack on some quality culture with appeal to all ages.

A couple of extra mentions to finish – don’t miss our fundraising gig with the UK Foo Fighters on 17th May at Harrogate Theatre. We are aiming to raise a good amount of money for both Harrogate Hospital Cardiac Ward and Harrogate Theatre through ticket sales, and it promises to be a great night out! We are three-quarters full already but we’d love to sell-out and maximise funds for the two charities.

Finally, a date for your diary – Our next Open Day at Harrogate Theatre is Wednesday 22nd May. Pop in between 10am and 2pm to nosy around. You can also book on a tour for just £5 and learn more about our history. Tours will run at 11am, 12noon, and 1pm.
