Thespis, or The Gods Grown Old, was the first collaboration between dramatist W. S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. No musical score of Thespis was ever published, and most of the music has sadly been lost.
Enthusiasts from around the Delaware Valley, USA struggled valiantly to come together with a performance of Thespis for the 25th Festival. They didn't quite make it but many of them will be in Harrogate for an illustrated workshop with music demonstrating Bruce Montgomerys 'feel' for what we had lost in Sullivan's music.
This will be a fascinating and enjoyable afternoon.
