Puppetry Workshop.
Puppetry is truly magic. It captivates an audience’s imagination by allowing ordinary things to come to life and tell a story. This full day workshop is designed to inspire and invigorate all creative people in a safe comfortable environment. It will give you the tools to explore ways of using puppetry in your own work or purely for therapeutic, playful purposes.
We will learn manipulation techniques and allow everyday materials such as paper and plastic express themes that create powerful atmospheres. We will study the symbolic meaning behind the objects we choose and give them a voice. You will then practice the art of tabletop character play and bunraku (3 person rod operated figure), developing detailed movement catalogues, expressive choreography and a deeper understanding of how puppetry narratives are interpreted.
Kathleen Yore is a professional puppet maker, performer, director and teacher based in Yorkshire. She is artistic director of Odd Doll and has produced five ACE funded touring productions, the last of which were awarded 5 stars. She teaches puppetry masterclasses at University Centre Leeds, Newcastle and Beverly Puppet festivals.
Please bring a packed lunch.
