Scientist Steve is on a long haul flight. His partner has just left him. Travelling for work on a crowded airplane across the Atlantic, he feels suddenly dislocated and alone. In a world of touch screens and social robots, he has lost the ability to make meaningful bonds with other people.

He makes a decision that will eventually force him to face his own inability to make a connection.
He decides to talk to the nervous passenger sitting next to him.

In a forest thousands of miles away a sapling pokes its head through the leafy forest floor. Beneath the soil its roots begin to scramble for the one thing that guarantees its survival - a connection.

The Economy of Ecology transports its audience through a long haul flight, podcast series and mythical leafy forest to explore personal connections and whether we are a touch deprived culture.

This is an urgent and provocative story about human relationships, communications and our impact on the natural world, where the often overlooked can sometimes become the simplest of solutions.

Manic Chord’s work combines storytelling, science and inventive physical theatre to explore its subject matter. As a company we place huge importance on working with a range of professional collaborators to create a visual and sensory experience for our audience.

Leeds based, Manic Chord Theatre are exited to go be back in rehearsal for the show which originally began life in late 2016 in association with the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Slung Low’s HUB.
