Harrogate Theatre’s Little Stages Festival is back sponsored by Your Harrogate.
Last year Harrogate Theatre launched the first of it’s Little Stages Festivals, put together to introduce the magic of theatre to children, complete with puppetry, storytelling ballet, music and much more. This spring it returns once again bringing a brand new selection of fabulous shows.
The festival began with The Gruffalo’s Child at the end of January to near sell out audiences. The second show, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is already sold out on WED 14 FEB. But there is still another option for those wanting to take a visit to the theatre over half term, The Selfish Giant will be coming to the theatre on SAT 17 FEB. Read on to find out more about this show and the others that are part of this year’s festival.
The Selfish Giant | 
Grinter the giant lives happily alone in her huge cold house, with snowy gardens and high, frost-covered walls. Outside the towering walls the world has been changing and there is very little green left. One day, the children find a gap in the giant’s wall and climb through, changing the course of the children’s and Grinter’s lives forever.
The timeless children’s classic book returns to the stage! See our characters write to the Zoo. Who will be delivered? A cheeky monkey, a jumpy frog and of course a perfect puppy. Help your children learn as the book leaps onto the stage and share a magical experience as the story unfolds with child-engaging puppets, music and lots of audience interaction.
Sooty: The 75th Birthday Spectacular | SAT 30 MAR | 11am & 2.30pm | £21/£18.50 | Ages 2+
Celebrating 75 amazing years in show business, Sooty, Sweep and Soo are planning a very special birthday party and you’re all invited. With buckets of audience participation and gallons of giggles, this spectacular celebration of the longest-running children’s television show in the world will delight Sooty fans old and new and is a must-see for the whole family.
Northern Ballet presents: The Tortoise and the Hare | SAT 06 APR | 11am, 2pm & 4pm | £13/£11 | Ages 2+
The race is on in Northern Ballet’s Tortoise & the Hare. When a cheeky Hare won’t stop boasting about how fast he can run, thoughtful Tortoise decides it is time to join him in a race. No one thinks Tortoise can win, but when Hare gets distracted by games and treats, Tortoise might just surprise us all. The perfect introduction to live ballet and music, your little ones will be cheering along as a playful cast of characters re-tell this classic tale.
