Liven up your Christmas in Harrogate...
In case you didn’t know, Harrogate’s fabulous festive pantomime opens on 28th November and runs all the way through until almost the end of January. However, did you also know that the Harrogate Theatre events team book in shows at the Royal Hall and Harrogate Convention Centre (HCC) too, and we have lots of other events coming up across December.
If you love a top-quality tribute act then look no further than Fastlove – A Tribute to George Michael on 1st December or The Australian Pink Floyd on 13th December, both at HCC. We’ve got some other super-popular acts at the top of their game in the shape of Magic of Motown (7th Dec), Dancing Queen (15th Dec), and The Bootleg Beatles (16th Dec) at the Royal Hall, too.
If you prefer the real thing, the Harrogate Theatre team are also bringing Deacon Blue to HCC on the 9th December, but sorry – this one’s been sold out for a while.
Closer to Christmas we have the beautiful, expressive vocals of Kate Rusby at the Royal Hall on Thursday 20th December. With a career spanning over 25 years in music and a Mercury Prize nomination, Rusby is known as one of the finest interpreters of traditional folk songs and one of our most emotive original songwriters.
On Friday 21st December we proudly present the legendary Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain right here in Harrogate - on the Royal Hall stage to be precise. Described as ‘the group that made the uke cool’ here’s your chance of a great toe-tapping night out where you get to play or sing a-long with the odd well-worn Christmas classic.
At Harrogate Theatre itself, there is also a handful of shows that aren’t panto believe it or not. We’ve got spooky ghost stories in the form of Oh Whistle… on 15th December and A Warning to the Curious on 16th December.
For comedy fans, the monthly Hyena Lounge Comedy Club is still happening on Saturday 8th December, and last but not least we have our fab community companies in the building in December too. Woodlands Drama Group conclude their run of The Lady in the Van on Saturday 1st December and The Harrogate Dramatic Society bring their run of Blue Remembered Hills from 4th to 8th December.
So in summary, if panto isn’t your thing the Harrogate Theatre team has plenty more for you to choose from this Christmas. We may be small but we work hard all year round to make sure all of the four spaces we work across are bursting with top talent, energy and fun all year round for a great night out, whatever you choose.
