Info for #HCF18 ticket holders...
Harrogate Comedy Festival is proudly brought to the town by the super-talented Harrogate Theatre programming team. This year’s festival takes place from 3rd-20th October at both Harrogate Theatre and the Royal Hall.
If you’ve got your tickets or are still planning to come along, here are a few things you might like to know ahead of your visit….
1. Celebrating ten years of laughter
2018 is our 10th birthday! We are proud to have built this highly respected festival of laughter, which continues to go from strength-to-strength. Each year we present leading names in stand-up as well as top notch emerging talent. Over the years we’ve earned Harrogate the title ‘Comedy Capital of the North’, and in 2017 we sold over 9,700 tickets across the festival – our biggest numbers to date.
2. Cheap(er) drinks at our favourite bars
The Harrogate Comedy Festival is all about community, and with that in mind we love to partner-up with some of our very best local bars to offer drinks and food deals for our ticket holders.
This year we have offers from The Little Ale House, North Bar Harrogate, The Harrogate Tap, Starling Independent Bar Café Kitchen, and Major Tom’s Social, plus our very own Circle Bar. Please pay them a visit and check the website for details of the offers.
3. FREE art exhibition
As part of the Harrogate Comedy Festival it’s become an annual tradition to host an exhibition of work in our Circle bar, presented by our friends at RedHouse Originals art gallery. For 2018 we are hosting a series of prints by Pete McKee for Warp Films 10th Anniversary.
Pete was commissioned to re-work the posters for 10 of their most celebrated films, including This is England, Dead Man’s Shoes and Four Lions. The exhibition is free. Have a browse as you enjoy your pre-show drink or on The Big Weekend Saturday open afternoon (See point 7. below).
4. FREE wristbands
We have FREE orange Harrogate Comedy Festival wristbands available at Harrogate Theatre Box Office and on our bars. Please feel free to grab one and help spread the word and support this event – we promise you’ll look really cool too. Honest.
5. £5 shows
Because we want you to see as much as possible, when you book three Harrogate Comedy Festival shows, you’ll get the cheapest one for just a fiver. What an absolute bargain!? Now, some shows have sold out or are about to, but if you act fast you can still take advantage of this awesome offer.
6. Comedian of the Year Competition
Our annual talent hunt is a way for us to offer a platform for rising stars of stand-up. 2018 is the 7th Comedian of the Year competition, which is once again sponsored by local brewery, Daleside.
During two heats a shortlist of wannabe comics battle to impress the audience and judges enough to secure a place in the final on Sun 14th October, as well as a spot at the Hyena Lounge Comedy Club Closing Gala on Sat 20th October. The value of this competition is not to be underestimated, as you may have seen previous winner Mickey P Kerr recently reach the Britain’s Got Talent final.
7. The Big Weekend
On Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th October it’s our BIG WEEKEND - a full two days of comedy joy. As well as shows we also open up the Circle bar on Saturday afternoon where Harrogate’s own Women On Tap will host A Conversation on Women & Comedy with Maisie Adam. This informal event will be followed by live music in the bar from Ramona Rose. The best bit? It’s FREE. Register for a free place here.
8. We want your feedback
Please tell us what you thought! You’ll find Harrogate Theatre on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Please tag us and use the hashtag #HCF18 - feel free to share your photos and feedback to your heart's content. We love hearing from you!
9. Year-round comedy
Comedy is for life, not just for comedy festivals. The Harrogate Theatre team programme superb comedians all-year-round not only at the theatre itself but also at the Royal Hall and Harrogate Convention Centre, so keep your eyes peeled! Over the coming months we’re bringing Dave Gorman, Julian Clary, Henning Wehn, and Robert White to Harrogate, not to mention our monthly Hyena Lounge Comedy Club where you get to see several class comedians all on one night for just £15. Try it sometime?
10. Thanks to YOU
Finally, Harrogate Comedy Festival is a significant investment for Harrogate Theatre and as a charity we simply couldn’t continue to do it every year without you - our supporters, sponsors and ticket buyers. THANK YOU.
All that’s left to say is, have a great time at this year’s Harrogate Comedy Festival, and please don’t wait until next year to come back and see us again. CHEERS!
