Panto is still in full swing and we are about to launch our brand-new spring season. We are bringing 63 different shows to Harrogate between February and the end of April! The brand new What’s On guide is available now from our foyer on Oxford Street, and you can browse the full season on the website. Over the three-month period we have music, drama, comedy, dance and some superb family shows – including the wonderful Zog at February half term.
Looking a little further ahead we are delighted to announce that this August and September, we will once again be a home to our very own repertory theatre company. There will be a team of actors, directors and technical magic makers resident at Harrogate Theatre throughout the two months. The team will rehearse and produce three shows week after week, and we’ve just announced the first two shows – John Godber’s On The Piste and comedy thriller, Deathtrap. Exciting news regarding the third show is coming soon….
The three shows will run for three weeks consecutively and will begin on Tuesday 27 August. If you joined us at the inaugural HT Rep season back in September, you’ll know that a huge part of the fun is the fact if you come to all three shows you get to see the same actors in various roles across the run. With this in mind we’re doing a deal where if you book for all three you can also save £10.00. We hope even more people come along to experience HT Rep 2019 – it’s great fun and creates a real buzz both within the building and across the town.
There’s something else in the Harrogate Theatre diary worth a mention. On Friday 11th January it’s our 119th birthday! On that day 119 years ago, this wonderful building opened its doors for the very first time. Known as The Grand Opera House, the theatre was state-of-the-art, lavishly decorated and ‘boasting hot and cold running water in the dressing rooms and electric lighting’.
Come and help us celebrate at our Open Day on Friday 11th between 10am & 4pm – you don’t need to book, just turn up. Maybe you’ve never been inside, or maybe when you have it’s always been busy with little opportunity to take it all in properly. The open days are a great opportunity to explore, meet our staff and volunteers, and soak in all those lavish details that have helped establish Harrogate Theatre as a heritage gem. Home today to Harrogate (White Rose) Theatre Trust Ltd, a registered charity, our aim is to bring quality culture and top-class entertainment to Harrogate, as well as to safeguard the future of this incredible building.
